Welcome to Xiangxi UNESCO Global Geopark !

Floral species

The proposed Xiangxi Global Geopark is characterized by diverse climate, abundant rainfall, warm and humid conditions. Therefore, it is endowed with favorable natural conditions, which, together with the external conditions, result in rich floral resources. The geopark is home to 2,206 species of vascular plants under 897 genera and 209 families.
Xiangxi Geopark is rich in biodiversity, with a significant ecological value. Its flora belongs to the central China area of China-Japan Forest Flora Sub-region, Pan-Arctic kingdom. The plants that are distributed in tropical, subtropical and temperate zones take up 45.35%, 98.55% and 43.64% of the total plants in the region, respectively. The geopark supports 2,206 species of vascular plants, belonging to 209 families and 897 genera. Of them, eight species (e.g., Davidia involucrata var. vilmoriniana, Bretschneidera sinensis, Manglietia decidua and Bretschneidera sinensis ) are under first-class state protection, while 17 species are under second-class state protection (Table 1-1, Figure 1-2 to Figure 1-7).
