Environmental Education Campaign Conducted at Aizhai Primary School to Create Enabling Conditions for Declaration of Xiangxi Global Geopark

　　On November 2, 2018, a sunny day, more than 300 teachers and students in Aizhai Primary School attended special environmental education lectures at the playground of the school. This was one of the popular science education activities organized by Xiangxi Prefecture to apply for Xiangxi Global Geopark.

　　Two speakers were Yuan Zizhong, assistant professor from the College of Biology and Environmental Science, Jishou University; and Du Shengdong, senior engineer on water conservancy and environment under Team 405 of Human Bureau of Geology and Mining Resources Exploration and Development. The two speakers shared with the students knowledge on the earth’s story, creation of global geoparks, prevention and control of geological hazards, and environmental protection with vivid languages, which deeply attracted the students and won applause from them.

　　This event is just the beginning of a series of environmental education campaigns organized by Xiangxi Prefecture. In the future, other environmental education activities will be held for the students in different ages and the general public to disseminate knowledge on earth sciences.
