Xiaolong Cave Subterranean River System
Located in Xiaolong Village, Shuanglong Town, Huayuan County, the underground outlet of Xiaolong (Small Dragon) Cave is developed in the core part of Paibi Syncline. The core part is made up of gently dipping limestone in Bitiao Formation Є4b）, Furong series in the Cambrian system, and is mainly developed in and near the fracture belts due to karst process. The surface depressions, dolines and sinkholes are densely distributed, which make it possible for rainfall and surface water to converge, dissolve along the bedding surface in the axial direction, be formed into conduits and subterranean rivers whose direction is fundamentally consistent with the syncline’s axial direction. The land surface watershed is the system’s boundary, covering a catchment area of 36 km2, with a flow ranging from 133.15 L/s to 600 L/s (Figures 4-20, 4-21).
