Graptolite Biota of Dianfang Formation in Silurian System
The Silurian system represents the period when the crustal movements were at its strongest in the upper Caledonian tectonic stages and when the paleogeographcial contour experienced its great changes. The complex and changeable sedimentary environment and conditions have determined the stratigraphic characteristics and paleontological distribution in Silurian system in Xiangxi Region.
The Silurian system in the geopark contains a mix of neritic facies graptolite-rich shale, silty shale, siltstone intercalated with a small amount of sandstone and limestone, as well as the biologic combinations mainly including graptolite (see Table 1-3 and Photo 1-55, 56).
