Partnership

  Based on the characteristics of its own development, The Xiangxi Geopark has established good partnerships with related government authorities, community farming households, local enterprises, and tourism companies. Firstly, it has established close relationships with competent government authorities to co-ordinate a number of efforts including the management, planning and protection of the Geopark. Secondly, it has worked with the local governments to formulate related policies, which are aimed to encourage and support the production and sales of agricultural products in the Geopark, promote the cultivation of ecologically sound, organic products, register trademarks of National Geographic Specialty Agricultural Products (e.g., Baojing Golden Tea, Guzhang Maojian Tea, and Xiangxi Kiwi Fruit), and then promote these specialty products through leaflets and sell these products on internet platforms(Figure1, Figure 2).

  Thirdly, the geopark has established partnerships with local tourism companies, tourism agencies, hotels, guesthouses, homestays and rural restaurants. A series of tourism projects have been developed, such as the Lüdongshan Farming Cultural Festival and the Xiangxia Golden Tea First International Tea Festival. Individual and group tourist services have been conducted. The bases for transportation, accommodation, cultural tourism, folk customs tourism, and transactions of tourism commodities have been established. Research institutions and universities such as Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences,Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeonotology,CAS, Central South University and Jishou University, have built scientific research bases and teaching practice bases in the geopark. Co-operative agreements have been signed with more than thirty companies, covering the topics on the operation of scenic areas, infrastructural development, media advertisements, production of publicity materials, transportation facilities, F&B and accommodation, communications facilities, display and promotions. The geopark has also established sister relations with other geoparks to enhance exchange and collaboration between them. These partners have all signed formal agreements with the geopark.
