Aizhai Primary School

Aizhai Town Ethnic Primary School, also known as Aizhai Primary School, is located in Aizhai Town, Jishou City. Established in 2008, it is now a partner of Xiangxi Geopark. The school is situated in the heart of the Dehang Grand Canyon, with a view of the Aizhai Bridge right above. The campus covers an area of 26,950 square meters, with a building area of 7,579 square meters. It consists of three village-level primary schools and currently has 66 faculty members and 604 students enrolled in 19 classes.

     Aizhai Primary School serves as a popular science education base for the Xiangxi Geopark. The campus features a geological popular science corridor, popular science classrooms, an art room, and an exhibition room for students' works. Over the years, the school has integrated local geography and the rich intangible cultural heritage of the ethnic groups into its curriculum. It offers elective courses on the Geopark as well as various intangible cultural heritage courses, such as Miao drum, lion dance, Miao embroidery, Miao songs, and Suona (a traditional double-reeded Chinese musical instrument). With four class hours per week, the school invites more than 10 provincial and prefectural representatives of intangible cultural heritage, including Wu Labao, a representative inheritor of the Xiangxi Miao folk songs at provincial level, to teach on-site, showcasing the diverse popular science education of the Geopark.
